Abstract

1275192 Radar SELENIA INDUSTRIE ELETTRONICHE ASSOCIATE SpA 10 July 1970 [15 July 1969] 33675/70 Heading H4D In an M.T.I. pulsed Doppler radar, interference from wide-band jamming is reduced by placing in the video signal output circuit of coherent phase detector 3 and M.T.I. canceller 4, a first video amplifier 5 having a bandwidth B<SP>1</SP> wide enough to pass wide band system noise and jamming noise and clutter remnants as well as the target signal, a hard limiter 6 having a limiting threshold well bellw the R.M.S. value of the noise and target signal but above the clutter valve, to produce wide band noise and narrow band target signal at the same level together with much smaller amplitude clutter (15 db below), and a second video amplifier 7 having a narrow bandwidth b which passes substantially all the target signal but severely attenuates the noise. The signal E thus has a large signal and negligiable noise and clutter, the noise being at a greater amplitude than the clutter. 8 and 9 are in amplitude detector and an integrator respectively the latter operating selectively on the noise and clutter such that they acquire the same amplitude to give a uniform background for the target marks.
