Abstract
1,274,442. Applying pesticide in the form of a foam. A. S. MINTON. 9 July, 1969 [9 July, 1968], No. 32752/68. Heading A5E. Pests are killed by subjecting them to contact with an aqueous foam comprising a pesticidal agent. The pesticidal agent is defined as disinfecting and sterilising agents are includes gases with pesticidal action. The aqueous foam may contain a solution or suspension of the pesticidal agent and is produced by the use of a surface active agent and conveniently the surface active agent also has pesticidal properties. In a specific embodiment a commercially available bactericide is used which comprises 8 % by volume of quaternary ammonium bactericide and 16% by volume of a suitably synergistic non-ionic ethylene oxide condensate. Alternatively a volatile pesticidal agent such as formaldehyde or methyl bromide may be used or sodium bicarbonate. The foam is produced in a conventional foam making machine. The invention finds particular application in the application of pesticides to the interior of or the contents of closed containers such as vats, wall cavities and pipe-lines, in which the space becomes completely filled with the foam. Alternative applications are in the disinfestation of non-human animals such as sheep, killing weeds in growing crops, and for the disinfestation of buildings inhabited by animals.
