A method of preparing a sweetening composition, e.g. in powder, granular or tablet form, comprises a step of mixing saccharin, a salt thereof or a composition containing saccharin or salt thereof, in dry form, with glutamic acid or a glutamate, e.g. monosodium L-glutamate. The saccharin-containing composition may comprise sucrose or lactose; it may be as described in Specification 1,194,344. The glutamate may have a particle size less than 60 mesh (B.S.S.).
