Abstract

1,274,028. Improving recovery characteristics of textiles. KANEGAFUCHI BOSEKI K.K. 14 July, 1969 [20 July, 1968 (3); 25 July, 1968], No. 35281/69. Heading D1P. In a process for improving the recovery characteristics of fibrous materials, an aqueous emulsion of a polyorgano-siloxane including methyl hydrogen polysiloxane having a viscosity at 25‹C of 10-40 centistokes. A polyethylene glycol or derivative thereof having the general formula "I" given below and an average molecular weight of 350-6,000 and are applied together with a catalyst and are subsequently heat-cured. R and R' may represent H, an alkyl group containing 1-20 carbon atoms or an alkylphenyl group having at least one alkyl group containing 1-20 carbon atoms, and at least one of the terminal groups being a hydroxy group. The emulsion may contain at least 5% by weight of methyl hydrogen polysiloxane and at most 95% by weight of dimethyl siloxane having a viscosity at 25‹C of 100-50,000 centistokes. The amount of polyorganosiloxane fixed to the fibrous structure is preferably 0.05-10% by weight based on the weight of the material. Catalysts for the process may be added to the emulsion in amounts ranging from 0.01-5.0% by weight based on the weight of the polyorganosiloxane and include: the carboxylic acid salts of tin, zinc, lead or zirconium the acid being naphthenic, octylic or isooctylic; dibutyl tin acetate, dibutyl tin laurate and butyl, titanate. The polymer may be cured for a period from 10 seconds to 10 minutes, the time being calculated from the relationship where, D is the total denier of the fibre, T is the curing temperature in ‹C and may range from 120-170‹C and t is the curing time in seconds. Prior to curing the material may be dried at a temperature between room temperature and 60‹C. The emulsion may also contain at least one organic silane cross-linking agent selected from the isocyanates of silane compounds, alkoxysilanes and acetates of silane compounds. Carbon atoms, and at least one of the terminal groups being a hydroxy group. The weight ratio of polyorganosiloxane to "glycol" applied to the material may lie between 9:1 and 1:2. Fibres treated include polyamides, polyesters and polyethers having an extensibility before treatment of at least 5% and they may be crimped simultaneously with or subsequent to the curing stage. The fibres may comprise a composite filament yarn having at least two different components.
