Abstract
1,273,814. Printing. CANON K.K. 30 May, 1969 [30 May, 1968], No. 27481/69. Heading D1B. [Also in Divisions B6, G2 and G3] Multicolour images are printed on a flexible material using a photosensitive members having a supported photoconductive layer with an overlying insulating layer; a latent electrostatic images are formed on the members by charges with a corona discharge of first polarity, imagewise exposure in accordance with one colour component of the multi-colour image while simultaneously applying a corona discharge which AC or DC of opposite polarity to the first polarity, and overall exposing the latent images are developed and the developed images transferred to flexible material; the above steps are carried out for each colour component. The formation of the latent images (which are semi-permanent) is described and claimed in Specification 1,165,405 and 1,165,406. The latent images may be developed with a conventional tone or by a printing paste or powder (which may be visibly coloured, photochromic, phosphorescent or fluorescent) optionally dissolved in an insulating solvent; the Examples describe the use of pastes comprising (1) Vari Fast Red and Piccolastic or (2) phthalocyanine Green, or Benzidine yellow or orange, ethyl cellulose, and halohydrocarbon, and of styrene resin tones containing phthalocyanine blue, carbon black and a metal complex dye, an azo dye or Brilliant yellow reactive dye. The flexible material α may be continuously printed (Fig. 12) by passing it, together with a pad # and a cushion y, around a pressure roller B at which it is successively contacted with photosensitive rollers R 1-4 bearing latent electrostatic images which are developed by appropriately coloured pastes C 1-4 . The Examples describe printing on cotton, woollen and acetate fabrics, leather and paper.
