Abstract
127,320. Birkigt, M. Oct. 7, 1916, [Convention date]. Fire between aircraft propeller blades, controlling and synchronizing.-Relates to machine guns of the recoiling-barrel type mounted on aeroplanes and controlled by the propelling-motor to fire between the blades of the propeller. According to the invention, the fire control is performed by a single rod, which can oscillate about its axis, and is provided at each end with a lever, one lever being worked by the motor, and the other lever working the gun. In the form shown, the rod f. Fig. 1, is mounted at one end in a ball-and-socket joint d on the frame carrying the motor shaft a, and at the other end in a spherical bearing c', which allows the rod f freedom of oscillation as well as longitudinal play, so as not to be influenced by vibrations and distortions of the motor and the fuselage. The lever g at one end of the rod f is worked by the cam b on the shaft a through the medium of a bolt c; the lever g is normally kept out of action, in the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, by a spring g<1>, and is put in action by a pull on a Bowden wire g<0>. The lever h at the other end of the rod f works the gun through the medium of a bolt i, j, Fig. 3, which is kept against the lever h by a spring k. This bolt and the bearing e<1> are both carried on the gun by a bracket e.
