1,272,428. Antiviral substance 84-B-3. KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO K.K. 22 July, 1969 [23 July, 1968], No. 36750/69. Heading C2A. The novel antiviral-substance 84-B-3, having the U.V. spectrum shown in Fig. 1; the I.R. spectrum shown in Fig. 2; a decomposition temperature of 161-164‹ C.; a M.W. of about 300 to 400; ready water solubility; stability to heat under neutral or alkaline conditions and inhibitory action against at least one of the plant virus diseases, tobacco mosaic virus, cucumber mosaic virus, radish mosaic virus and alfalfa mosaic virus; is prepared by cultivating Streptomyces rameus (ATCC 21273) in a nutrient medium therefor and recovering the 84-B-3 produced.
