Abstract

1,271,225. Photo-lithography. KODAK Ltd. Sept. 19, 1969 [Sept. 20, 1968], No.44723/68. Heading G2M. Aqueous lithographic fix/etch solutions contain (a) a water miscible ester derived from a polyhydric alcohol and a C 1-4 carboxylic acid, (b) a compound which has affinity for Ag and renders the image more hydrophobic, and optionally also (c) a film-former or gum, (d) a corrosion inhibitor (e,g. a nitrate or nitrite), (e) a buffer (e.g. a phosphate, and (f) another organic solvent (e,g.) isopropanol). The solutions are used to treat metal bases bearing silver images formed by the silver salt diffusion transfer process. Preferably (a) is a glycerol, ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol mono- or polyacetate, (b) is a mercapto or quaternary ammonium compound (especially 1- octyl-1, 2, 4, 5-tetrahydro- 1, 3, 5-triazine-4-thiol or a mixture of 1-phenyl- 5-mercaptotetrazole and cetyl-trimethyl ammonium bromide), and (c) is carboxymethyl cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyacrylamide, an alginate or gum acacia.
