[Also in Division C5] A cyclic process for the vapour phase separation of diolefins from mixtures with monoolefins comprises selectively adsorbing the diolefins from the mixture by passage over a bed of a suitable adsorbent, e.g. granular activated charcoal, desorbing the sorbed diloefins with superheated steam, condensing and separating the diolefins from the effluent, and drying and cooling the desorbed adsorbent with a stream of the monoolefins from which the diolefins have been removed. In a preferred embodiment, a continuous cyclic 3-bed system is described. The beds may be fixed, moveable or fluidised, and the process is particularly applicable to the separation of trans-1, 4- hexadiene from mixtures with ethylene and propylene.
