Abstract
126,854. Whitham, F. E. July 3, 1918. Disk mills.-(1) The base E of the rotary disk B, instead of being mounted on a spindle, is mounted on balls G and is formed with a flange H which fits within a flange F on the casing C and surrounds the pinion J. The pinion J is formed on the disk B or is formed with an angular boss J<1> fitting a recess in the disk and is secured by a bolt K. The pinion is driven by a pinion on a shaft mounted in the base of the mill. Lubricant supplied to the pinions is thrown into a recess V and passes through holes W to the balls. Lubricant passing between the flanges F, H is led to the bearing of the driving-shaft. (2) The stationary disk A is secured to the cover D of the casing and adjustment of the space between the disks can be effected by turning the cover, the cover having inclines which engage inclines on the casing, and bolts being provided for securing the cover. (3) The disk R is provided with a hub having radial pockets R<1> for distributing the material to radial channels R of decreasing depth formed in the usua] manner by the spaces between teeth P on the disks. The teeth may be prismatic or of diamond shape and decrease in size from the centre outwards. The final reduction mav be effected bv flat or furrowed surfaces on the disks. The disk B may be provided with the usual curved vanes Q for discharging the material. The feed-hopper S is formed with passages T for admitting air or other fluid. Specifications 20557/99, 18716/01, and 14067/08 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1722/78.
