Abstract
126,821. Smith, S. C. May 24, 1918. Crutches.-A crutch for a person suffering from paralysis of one side of the body, or from the loss of a limb, is fitted with an adjustable rigid bracket encircling the trunk and with straps for the chest and neck so that it may be wielded by the swinging motion of the wearer's trunk. A curved bracket a formed in two parts and fitted with straps a<1>, a<2> is secured to the crutch staff x by bolts and nuts b, so that it may be adjusted vertically on the crutch, and so that the width of opening of the bracket may be adjusted by slacking off one nut and tightening the other. The crutch is provided with a telescopically adjustable head c and with straps d, e encircling the chest and neck respectively. The crutch staff may be formed with a hinge adapted to be locked or freed by a sliding sleeve y<1>, so that the staff may be folded when the wearer sits down.
