Abstract

1,267,438. Polymer compositions. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 31 Oct., 1969 [31 Oct., 1968], No. 53351/69. Headings C3P and C3R. A polyarylene polyether composition comprises from 5 to 95% by weight of a rubber modified polyacrylate based on the total weight of the composition. The polyacrylate may contain 1 to 75% by weight of rubber, based on the total weight of rubber and polyacrylate. The composition may also contain from 1 to 20% by weight of the rubber modified polyacrylate and polyarylene polyether, of an organopolysiloxane or a polyester. In examples, the polyarylene polyethers also contain dimethyl methylene groups, sulphone groups, methylphenyl methylene groups, vinyl cyclohexane groups and ketone groups, as well as phenylene groups oxygen atoms; the polyacrylates used are poly- (methyl methacrylate), methylmethacrylate/ styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer, poly-(ethylmethacrylate) and poly-(ethylacrylate) and are modified with styrene-butadiene rubbers and acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene rubbers. One composition (Example 22) also contains silica and a polydimethylsiloxane oil. Uses.-Mouldings, films, coatings, threads, filaments, gaskets, bearings, in varnishes and paints and for electrical insulation.
