Abstract
1,267,318. Tetramethylguanidine. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 9 Nov., 1970 [19 Nov., 1969], No. 53180/70. Heading C2C. 1,1,3,3-Tetramethylguanidine or its hydrochloride are prepared by mixing at least 2 equivalents of dimethylamine with cyanogen chloride in a water-immiscible solvent, and heating under pressure at 130-180‹ C. until reaction is complete; and optionally releasing the tetramethylguanidine from its hydrochloride by reaction with a base.
