1,265,837. Oxidation catalysts. B.P. CHEMICALS Ltd. 10 Sept., 1970 [17 Oct., 1969], No. 51095/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C2] Catalyst compositions comprising a cobalt compound and an acetate salt supported on a carrier of low surface area are used in the oxidation of allyl acetate to glycerol di and/or triacetate. The cobalt compound may be cobaltous acetate or cobaltous bromide and in the latter case acetate salts are supplied as alkali metal acetate e.g. potassium acetate. Chromic oxide may optionally be present and suitable supports are heat treated alumina or diatomaceous earth.
