Abstract

1,265,133. Photographic scribing apparatus . P. E. MADER. May 29, 1970 [May 30, 1969], No. 26102/70. Headings G2A and G2J. Apparatus for the photographic scribing of lines parallel to two different co-ordinate directions on a photographic plate 18 comprises a light projecting device 19 mounted for movement in each of the two directions above the plate 18, the device including a light source 48, at least one apertured diaphragm 52 and a condenser lens system 49. The device 19 is movable on rails (22) Fig.1 (not shown) carried by slide members (23, 24) which in turn are carried on further rails (25) perpendicular to the first rails (22). All the lines in one direction are scribed first, the ends of each lines being defined by adjustable masks (41) parallel to the further rails (25). Then the plate 18 is rotated through 90 degrees and the lines in the other direction scribed. The diaphragm 52 comprises an opaque disc having apertures 51 of different sizes which are selectively placed in the light path to give lines of different thicknesses. A second diaphragm, having the form of a drum 67, is provided, apertures 68 therein being arranged to give an image on the plate 18 via a mirror 74. As the device 19 is moved along the first guide rails (22), the drum 67 is rotated via mechanism 70-72, and with the mirror 74 in the position 74<SP>1</SP>, a dotted line is scribed on the plate 18. Interchangeable drums having different sized apertures are provided for dots of different length and frequency.
