A photographic sliding plate shutter has blades 3, 4 formed of thin, flexible material and slidable between curve guide surfaces 1, 2. Blade 4 has an exposure aperture 7. Each blade carries a pin 17, 13 for engagement with spring-loaded levers 14, 10. Lever 14 is held against movement by a blocking lever 20 engaging an arm 18 of lever 14. The exposure is started by operation of blocking lever 20, and terminated by actuation of lever 10 after a time delay determined by an escapement mechanism (not shown). One of the guide surfaces may also act as a film running surface.
