Abstract
1,263,475. Work supports. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. 22 Oct., 1969 [23 July, 1968] No. 34985/68. Heading B3B. A method of supporting a workpiece 45 comprises fixing a plurality of supports 10 on to a base, e.g. a pallet, providing a like plurality of pad members 40 which are readily disengageable fron the supports 10 and fixing the workpiece to the pads by an adhesive. The pad 40 may be adhered to the workpiece 45 before being gripped by the supports 10. The adhesive may be a contact adhesive and may be provided on the pad member and used more than once. The pad member is shaped to conform to the surface of the workpiece to allow the adhesive to be effective. The pad member may include a hole 41 which is gripped frictionally by internally expanding segments 18, or include a spigot (141) (Fig. 2, not shown) which is externally gripped by the segments 18. The part of the pad member which is adhered to the workpiece may be made of a flexible material, e.g. rubber. The work support 10 comprises a base 11 having a screwed spigot 13 for attaching to a pallet and three resilient fingers 17 carrying the segments 18. The segments 18 are expanded by a toggle mechanism.
