Abstract

1,263,006. Automatic exchange systems. SIEMENS A.G. 3 March, 1970 [4 March, 1969], No. 10002/70. Heading H4K. In a PCM, TDM exchange utilizing one time slot for transmitting signalling data in respect of connections taking place in the other time slots and wherein each data signal is accompanied by a designation signal for identifying the time slot to which the data signal relates, the designation signal on an incoming highway is decoded so as to allow the data to be switched through at the time slot to which it relates whereafter a new designation signal is added to the data in respect of the new time slot which is allocated to the call on an outgoing highway. If the exchange is a terminal exchange the data may be processed therein by the local control circuitry. In addition, data in respect of an outgoing call may be inserted by the local control circuitry into the data time slot of the relevent outgoing highway. As shown, data and designation signals occurring during a data time slot on an incoming highway PCMe are fed into a shift register SRe. The cyclical output of an address generator ZGe is compared with the stored designation signals so as to read out the related data signals during the relevant time slots. The data passes through a data switching network SKF in synchronism with the corresponding intelligence signal passing through speech switching network KF. The networks may incorporate delay lines for purposes of time slot transposition. At the output side of the network the data is gated into a relevant compartment of a shift register SRs under the control of another cyclically operable address generator ZGs which also inserts the corresponding designation signal into the register. During the data time slot in the outgoing highway PCMs the data in the register is read-out in serial fashion for onward transmission. Additional receiving register SReK and transmitting register SRys are provided for conveying data to and from the local control circuits K, Y when the exchange is acting as a terminal exchange.
