Abstract
1,262,842. Starch and sweetening substitutes. PFIZER Inc. 16 Jan., 1970 [22 Jan., 1969], No. 2343/70. Addition to 1,182,961. Heading A2B. [Also in Divisions C3 and C6] The process of preparing higher polysaccharides and polysaccharide derivatives of glucose and maltose described and claimed in the Parent Specification is improved or modified by including in the glucose-or maltosecatalyst mixture, prior to the polymerisation, from 5 to 20% by weight of a food-acceptable polyol, exemplified by erythritol, galactitol, glycerol, mannitol, sorbitol and xylitol. The polyol is stated to be chemically incorporated in the polymer and to function inter alia as a plasticizer to reduce viscosity. The examples are generally similar to those disclosed in the Parent Specification, except that a formulation for a low calorie gelatin dessert is also given.
