Abstract

1,262,144. Removing oil &c. floating on water &c. WASAG-CHEMIE A.G. 27 Feb., 1969 [6 March, 1968], No. 10596/69. Heading C1C. A process for absorbing and burning off oil &c. floating on water &c. comprises the application of absorbent, non-inflammable and foamed inorganic particles to the oil &c. and burning the latter absorbed by them. The particles are buoyant in the oil &c. and may be hydrophobized. Preferred materials for the foamed particles include the silicates of sodium, calcium and aluminium, mica, alumina, clay, and metals, e.g. aluminium.
