Abstract

1,261,741. Shearing. UNIROYAL. 31 Jan., 1969 [5 Feb., 1968], No. 5379/69. Heading B3W. The disclosure is identical with that of Specification 1,261,742 but the claims relate to a method of and apparatus for bias-cutting flexible sheet material including longitudinal metal reinforcements in which the material is fed intermittently to a cutter which is reciprocated between feed strokes at an angle to the feed direction to bias cut the material on its forward and return strokes into strips of predetermined first and second widths respectively. Feed control means cause the feed stroke to exceed the predetermined width in each case by amounts which compensate for dimensional distortion of the material resulting from cutting alternately in the forward and return directions. For instance, the feed stroke preceding the cutting of a strip 6b of true width Xb = 90 mm. on a return stroke (arrow c) would be 260 mm. Whilst the feed stroke preceding the cutting of a strip 6a of the same width on a forward stroke (arrow b) would be 267 mm.
