Abstract

1,261,228. Liquid filter. G. MAESTRELLI. 19 May, 1969 [5 March, 1969], No. 25434/69. Addition to 1,181,273. Heading B1D. A filter used in the solvent circuit of a drycleaning machine comprises a housing enclosing one or more assemblies of filter elements D, which are cleaned by rotation of central shaft(s) 18, on which the assembly is mounted, in a continuous or reciprocating fashion; the resulting turbulence being increased by means F which inhibits the solvent in the housing from rotating freely with the assembly. In Fig. 2 radial baffles F are attached to the housing wall and extend axially of the cylindrical housing. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the baffles (F) are inclined to the radial planes, forming recesses opening in the opposite direction to that in which the assembly rotates. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the baffles are replaced by beads indented in the housing wall, and in Fig. 6 (not shown) baffles (F 4 ) extend helically of the housing, not axially. In Fig. 4 (not shown) a housing of square cross-section provides corners which induce turbulence in the same way as baffles in other embodiments. The cleaning action may be enhanced by draining solvent from the housing as the filter elements rotate. The elements are of wire wound on supporting frames round central perforate tubes 30, and may be lozenge-shaped in cross-section and radially oriented, or of circular or hexagonal section (Figs. 3, 5). The two ends of each tube 30 communicate through upper and lower supports (Fig. 1, not shown) with hollow shaft 18 through which filtrate is discharged. Filter aid may be applied to the outer surfaces of elements D, and the housing has a valve-controlled outlet 16 for periodic discharge of accumulated solids.
