Abstract

[Also in Division A4] A play device comprises end members 12, 13 hinged to side frames 10, 11 to form a play pen, collapsable by folding the end members about hinges 23 or by moving the frame 10, 11 in opposite directions lengthwise, which can be used as a support for a table or trampoline and in which at least the pivot pins connecting the end member 13 are removable for replacement of the member 13 by an end member 14 formed as a moulding of resin bonded glass fibre which is rigidly secured to the end of the frames 10, 11 by clamping pieces 27 to form a climbing frame or a support for a swing. The end members 12, 13 and side frames comprise rails 16, 17, 21, 22 connected by dowels 15, 20, two dowels 15 being engaged by the clamping pieces 27 which are secured by wing nuts and bolts 28. A flat board 30, foldable centrally and usable as a table top or floor of the play pen, has planks 32 secured to it to locate the dowels of the end member 12, steel channel-section struts 34 are bolted at 35 and hinged at 36 to the rails 16, 17 to rigidify the structure so as to support a swing chair or harness. A sub-frame securable to the side frames supports a rocking horse, see-saw or slide. Balls 18 rotatable on an intermediate rail 18 prevent a child from climbing out of the pen. A flexible cover can be placed over the whole structure as shown in Fig. 2 to form a tent, and for outdoor use, the struts 34 have ground-penetrating feet.
