Abstract
1,260,054. Change-speed control. VOITH GETRIEBE K.G. 10 Nov., 1969 [8 Nov., 1968], No. 55005/69. Heading F2D. [Also in Division H3] In a circuit for energizing a moving armature electromagnet from a D.C. supply via a protective resistor which is initially short circuited, the short circuit being removed after a delay by " switch means," the said " switch means " includes a capacitor, a resistor in series therewith, and the base/emitter of a transistor, all in parallel with the winding of the electromagnet, the transistor controlling or effecting the short circuiting of the protective resistor. In Fig. 1 (not shown) energization of either of two electromagnets (1, 2) also initiates charging of a capacitor (C1 or C2) via a resistor (RC1) and the base-emitter of a transistor which thereby conducts to energize a relay (R1) having a contact which bridges a resistor (RV1) in series with the electromagnets. The relay drops out, reinserting the resistor, when the charging current drops below the threshold level of the transistor and this is arranged to occur after the electromagnet has pulled in. As shown, electromagnets 3 ... 6, which operate hydraulic valves in a vehicle gear-box, are supplied via a common resistor RV2; gear change is effected by change over switches 16, 17 and when one of these opens the circuit of an electromagnet the resulting increase in voltage on bus-bar S2 (due to a lower drop across RV2) charges capacitor C3 via R2 and T2, turning on transistors T2, T3 and hence T4 which bridges RV2 for the required time. C3 is discharged via a diode 23. In the case of electromagnets 3 and 4 an overlap is provided, 3 being held in by current through a resistor Ru (equal to RV2) after 16 has opened and RV2 bridged, until RV2 is re-inserted. In this case also this is further delayed by connecting a second capacitor Cu across C3. A further electromagnet 7 (for reverse) may be energized concurrently with any of the others and this has its own capacitor C4 which is charged when switch 18 is closed in the manner of Fig. 1.
