Abstract

1,259,619. Casting composite rotors for electric motors; casting machines. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES ET DE CHAUDRONNERIE CORPET-LOUVET & CIE. 2 Jan., 1969 [9 Jan., 1968], No. 269/69. Heading B3F. Into a machine for assembling rotors by casting squirrel cage bars B, Fig. 1, and end rings 9, 10 (which may have cooling fins) in and on stacks R of laminations 5, such a stack is allowed by a device 86, Fig. 8, to drop from a shoot 85, into a cleft 90, 91 (of a feed-slide 87, 88) adju stable to accommodate the stack diameter , and is carried sideways to align its axis with the horizontal axis 106 of hydraulic jacks 61, 62, Fig. 12, and of a sleeve 22 or 23 into which the stack R is pushed by the hollow rod 64 of the jack 62. The sleeves 22, 23 are mounted in a plate 19 which can be swung through 180 degrees by a rack-and-pinion 40, 39, Fig. 6 (or by gearing or an hydraulic motor) about a horizontal bar 16b of the machine, so that their positions, in the same horizontal plane, can be interchanged. Thus, while the sleeve 23 containing a stack R 1 , Fig. 12, is clamped between a fixed die 26 and a movable die 32, metal is injected by a plunger 30 through one or more gates 28 into annular cavities 27, 34 in the die faces and into helically arranged channels 8, Fig. 1, for casting the bars in the rotor. Meanwhile, from a completed rotor R<SP>1</SP> in the sleeve 22, a temporary spindle 7, on which the rotor laminations have been stacked, is pushed out into the hollow piston rod 64 by an extension 65 of the piston rod 63 of the opposed jack 61 which, being of greater thrust, also causes the completed rotor to be pushed out of the sleeve 22, breaking the sprue C. The spindles 7 are pushed successively through the rod 64 until they fall into a shoot 82. The freed rotor R<SP>1</SP> falls into a discharge shoot 80 on retraction of the rod 63. A lowerable stop 70 prevents retraction of the rotor with the rod 63. While the assembled rotor is still in the sleeve 23 between the dies, with the cast metal cooling, a fresh rotor stack R, Fig. 8, is carried into the machine and inserted in the sleeve 22. Then the injection plunger 30 and the die 32 are retracted and the sleeve-carrying plate 19 is moved off the fixed die 26 by a jack 43 and swung through 180 degrees by the rack-and-pinion 40, 49 to interchange the positions of the assembled rotor and the fresh stack, ready to start a new cycle. In a modification, Figs. 18-24 (not shown), an assembled rotor is pushed by a part-hollow piston rod (111) on to the opposed piston extension (116) to remove a temporary spindle (112) and against stops (117) to break the sprue while the metal is being injected into the stack in the other sleeve. The stop (70) is fixed on the side of a plate carrying the fixed die (26) opposite the hollow-rod jack and on which side the assembled rotor falls and is discharged.
