Abstract
1,259,616. Compositions of elastomeric fluorinated hydrocarbon polymers. ROLLS ROYCE Ltd. 28 Nov., 1969 [5 Dec., 1968], No. 57791/68. Heading C3P. An elastomeric composition comprises an elastomeric fluorinated hydrocarbon polymer, a metal oxide acid acceptor, a cure accelerator, which is an organic diamine or diamine salt, and an organic dihydroxy compound. The preferred polymer is a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene. Metal oxide acid acceptors specified are finely divided magnesium oxide and/or lead monoxide, magnesium oxide alone being preferred. Cure accelerators specified are alicyclic diamine salts, hexamethylene diamine carbamate, ethylene diamine carbamate and, most preferably N,N<SP>1</SP>- dicinnamylidene-1, 6-hexane diamine. Any aromatic or aliphatic dihydroxy compound is suitable, but hydroquinone is preferred. A filler such as carbon black, baryta, china clay or silica flour, may also be included. The example discloses a composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and hexa fluoropropylene, 15 parts by weight of MgO, 15 parts by weight of carbon black, 3 parts by weight of N,N<SP>1</SP>-dicinnamylidene-1,6-hexane diamine, and 1À5 parts by weight of hydroquinone.
