Abstract

Apparatus for applying an uncured layer of rubber 17 to the sidewall of a tyre 6 comprises a supporting stand 1 with an annulus 4 to receive the tyre, and a heated annular former 16 attached to a framework 9, 10. The latter is mounted on a vertical rod 7 and urged downwardly by a nut 23, whereby pressure is applied to the tyre and layer 17. The upper face of the former 16 is recessed and grooved to receive two circular thermostatically controlled electric resistance heating elements which are held in place by clips and covered by insulating material 21 within a metal cover 22.
