1,259,342. Dentifrice. L. D. SPROUL. 4 Feb., 1969, No. 6015/69. Heading A5B. A dentifrice in solid unit form, e.g. tablets or pellets, which disintegrates to a paste in the presence of added moisture, comprises a loosely blended homogeneous mixture of from 50-88% by weight of at least one abrasive and polishing agent, from 10-20% by weight of binding agent, a deterging agent in an amount of up to 20% by weight, an oilabsorbing chemical agent in an amount of up to 5% by weight, and at least one flavouring oil and a sweetening agent, the abrasive and polishing agent, the binding agent and the oil-absorbing chemical agent being incorporated into the dentifrice in the form of powders with each powder being composed of microscopic particles having a different shape from the microscopic particles of the other powders so that the solid form has a multiplicity of voids, pores and spaces which enable it to absorb added moisture, without the need for mastication, at a rate higher than that of the individual ingredients of the mixture, with consequent rapid disintegration.
