A foundry moulding sand contains up to 2% by weight of cocoa bean powder. The cocoa bean powder may be derived from the grinding of cocoa shells, cocoa expeller cake or defatted cocoa waste. A moulding sand made up using fresh sand preferably comprises 0À1-1% by weight of cocoa expeller cake or defatted cocoa waste. The cocoa bean powder may also be added to a moulding sand that is largely composed of return sand. Other ingredients of the moulding sand may be sodium bentonite or powdered coal. The effect of the addition of the cocoa bean powder is to improve the fluidity of the foundry sand.
