Abstract

125,888. Hunter, S. Oct. 28, 1918. Milling-machines.-In a portable machine for cutting keyways &c. in shafts &c., the cutter is rotated continuously and fed intermittingly while it is reciprocated by a link connecting the bed to a crank-pin on a driven wheel carried by the cutter slide. The cutter spindle 5 is carried by a slide adapted to move on a bed 1 which is clamped to the work. A link 9 is pivoted at one end to a bracket 11 of the bed 1 and at the other to any desired point in a slot 13a of a disk 13. The disk is driven through eccentric and ordinary gearing 22, 19 from a worm 14 on the driving shaft 4 so that the slide is reciprocated. The spindle 5 is fed axially by a nut 33 which is rotated by ratchet gear 32 and slotted levers 29, 25 connected together by an adjustable bolt 27, the lever 25 being oscillated by a crank-pin 24.
