[Also in Divisions B2 and C3] A composite sheeting or film is produced by applying a layer, sheeting or film of a copolymer prepared from 71-90% by weight of ethylene, 3-9% by weight of a copolymerizable olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3- 5 carbon atoms and 1-20% by weight of an ester of a tertiary alkanol having 4-8 carbon atoms with acrylic or methacrylic acid, to one or both sides of sheeting or film of a synthetic polyamide. The composite sheeting or film may be made by applying a layer of the ethylene copolymer which is in the molten or at least highly plastic condition to polyamide sheeting or film and pressing them together or by uniting a synthetic polyamide layer in the plastic condition with at least one layer of ethylene copolymer also in the plastic condition and pressing them together. The process may be carried out batchwise in a press heated to a temperature above the softening temperature of the ethylene copolymer and below the melting temperature of the polyamide, or continuously using extrusion coating equipment, so that the melt of the ethylene copolymer is applied direct on to the cold or preheated polyamide sheeting or film, the sheets being pressed together by means of a pair of rollers, or by melting both materials, supplying them through separate feed channels to separate dies, extruding them and pressing them together while in the plastic condition. Tubular film may be made by the process. The composite sheeting or film may have applied thereto a further plastics sheet or film, e.g. of synthetic polyamide or a homopolymer of ethylene having a density of 0À916-0À935. The polyamide may be a polylactam based on a lactam having 7-13 ring members or a reaction product of a dicarboxylic acid having 6-19 carbon atoms and an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diamine having 6-15 carbon atoms. The polyamide and the ethylene copolymer may contain dyes, pigments and stabilizers.
