Abstract

1,258,265. Electric irons. SUNBEAM CORP. 30 Dec., 1968 [1 May, 1968], No. 61733/68. Heading D1A. In an electric iron, the base has a wide rearwardly facing surface 33 which, with a member 80 extending laterally a substantial distance beyond the gripping part of the handle on either side at the back, forms a stable rest for the iron in its upended position. Surface 33 is formed in the sheet metal cover shell 31 of sole plate 27 which is of aluminium, steel or a metallic laminate. Member 80 is integral with a door 45 in the rear of the e.g. phenolic plastic handle 23. One of two side openings 53, 54 in the dividing line between the handle and door 45 receives the cord 25 and the other a cap 56 according to whether the iron is to be used by a left-handed or right-handed person.
