Abstract
1,258,150. Spark spectrography. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Dec. 5, 1969 [Dec. 18, 1968], No.59556/69. Heading G2J. In a spark spectrography apparatus a turn-table 2 can be both rotated about its own axis and moved laterally relative to a vertical electrode 1. A motor (14b), Fig. 4 (not shown) in a casing 14 rotates a pinion 20 and thereby rotates the turntable 2 through the action of a ring gear 22 and a second pinion 18. To achieve lateral movement an electromagnetic clutch 26 is operated to cause the ring gear 22 to drive a pinion 30 via a shaft 28. The pinion 30 is fixed relative to the carriage 8 and co-operates with a rack 32 which is fixed relative to the ground so that rotation of pinion 30 causes it and the whole carriage to move. The motor (14b) drives a dynamo (14c) Fig. 4 (not shown) whose output is connected to a phase-shift device (54) and the difference between the output of this device and the voltage taken from a fixed potentiometer 48 as the contact 46 is moved by the carriage 8 is used to provide the original motor drive. A point under the electrode 1 thus sweeps out a spiral and equal areas of the turn-table surface spend equal times under the electrode.
