Abstract
1,258,144. X-ray examination tables. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 5 Nov., 1969 [22 Nov., 1968], No. 54262/69. Heading H5R. An X-ray table comprises an elongated table body 2 having a horizontal normal position and being tiltable about a transverse axis 4 by means of a tilt drive, a table top 5 supported on the table body 2 for floating movement relative thereto and longitudinal thereof, reversible power drive 13, Fig. 4, for driving the table top 5 and a manually operable arrangement 7 movable to a coupling and an uncoupling position for respectively coupling and uncoupling the table top 5 to and from the power drive 13 thus enabling the table top to be positively driven by the power drive or to be floated manually. As shown, the table top is mounted on crosscarriage frame 6 which is supported for floating transverse movement thereof on the table body 2 and which houses one or more chain drives 8, 9, connected to a reversible motor 13, for selectively co-operating with the table top 5. When connecting the table top 5 to the chain drives the lever 7 is operated to move, for example by the linkage arrangement shown in Fig. 12, a dog 20 into engagement with a socket 19 mounted on the chains 9. Alternatively, Fig. 16 (not shown), a series of dogs co-operating directly with the chain links may be used. A pin may be provided on the lever 7, Fig. 13 (not shown), which allows operation thereof only when the table top is in its central position on the frame 6 and the pin aligns with a slot in the frame. When lever 7 is moved to the manual float position-i.e. to the right in Fig. 12-the linkage via a pin 67 operates a switch, Fig. 11 (not shown), which prevents the chain drive and the tilt drive from being energized. In addition a mercury switch is energized upon tilting of the table-only possible when lever 7 is in the power drive position-to move a plunger into a locking hole 76 in the linkage of Fig. 12 to prevent operation of the lever 7 whilst the table is tilted. Electromagnetic locking mechanisms may receive the table in any desired position, and, when in the chain drive mode, may be disengaged automatically when the drive motor is started.
