Abstract

125,791. Harrison, G. B., and Campbell, E. F. May 13, 1918. Gyroscopic apparatus.-A gyroscope is employed to keep the bowl and card of a magnetic compass, for use on aircraft or on ships, horizontal under acceleration and centrifugal forces. The card 2, supported on a float 1, is mounted on upper and lower pivots 3 in the casing 5 which is attached to the casing 8 of a gyro 9 rotating in ball-bearings 11. The instrument is mounted in gimbals the outer of which takes the roll and the relative movements of the gimbals and their supports indicate the inclinations of the aeroplane &c. on which they are carried.
