In testing a nominally circular workpiece W for deviation from circularity by following its surface with a transducer T and removing the D.C. and fundamental A.C. components from the transducer output signal, a low pass filter F produces a signal consisting only of the fundamental A.C. component and a D.C. component, an integrator I, set by switch XI, to integrate over one or more complete revolutions, produces a signal representing the D.C. component of the transducer output signal modified to take account of the D.C. component in the filter output signal, and the outputs of the integrator I, filter F and transducer T are combined at B1 and B2 to produce the required "deviation from circularity" signal which is recorded on chart CR.
