[Also in Division A4] A canister 3 containing a flanged spool of thread has a base 13 contoured to define a socket to receive the spool flange 8, and a thread guide 16 containing a block of foam 18 through which the thread passes, and which holds the thread. The spool is retained frictionally or by adhesive on a spigot 10 upstanding from the base 13. A number of sockets 8' of differing diameters may be provided in the base to accommodate different spools.
