Abstract
1,257,219. Coatings. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 28 Feb., 1969 [1 March, 1968 (4)], No. 10839/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Sheet-metal, e.g. Al, Zn, Cu, or Fe, may be lacquered with solutions of polyesterimides. The sheet-metal may have rust spots. The polyesterimides are made by condensing (A) polyfunctional cyclic polycarboxylic anhydride(s), or compounds convertible thereto, with (B) polyfunctional oxazolines at 100-400‹ C. (A) is cyclic dicarboxylic acid anhydride containing either (a) 1 or 2 further cyclic dicarboxylic acid anhydride groups, or (b) 1 or 2 other functional groups capable of being condensed or added, e.g. -COOH or ester groups; instead of the anhydride groups, o-dicarboxylic acids or phenyl esters thereof may be used. (B) contains 2 or more #<SP>2</SP>-oxazoline rings which may be linked to cyclo-aliphatic, aromatic, aliphatic, or heterocyclic, optionally substituted radicals, and may be substituted, e.g. by methylol or radicals or ester groups. In a modification, additional polymers may be co-condensed, e.g. polyimides, polyesters, polyisocyanurates, polybenzimidazoles, and polyhydantoins. Catalysts may be present, e.g. tertiary amines, octoates of Zn, Co, Cu, or Pb, or iron acetyl acetonate.
