A method of producing a fabric e.g. a woven or knitted fabric comprises forming the fabric wholly from yarn of high shrinkage potential, said yarn being a protein fibre yarn which has been stretched while wet and subsequently dried while in the stretched condition to provide said high shrinkage potential, the fabric being finished by a wet processing which causes shrinkage to produce a finished fabric of increased density. The protein fibres are preferably wool fibres.
