Abstract

1,255,599. Oxalic acid. RHONE POULENC S.A. 9 Feb., 1970 [10 Feb., 1969], No. 6179/70. Addition to 1,154,061. Heading C2C. In a process for the preparation of oxalic acid by the introduction of propylene into nitric acid at 10-40‹ C. and heating to 45- 100‹ C., the nitrous fumes formed are simultaneously removed so that the concentration, expressed as N0 2 is maintained between 1 and 10% by weight. The concentration of nitric acid in the solution is maintained at 50-70% by weight and the molar ratio of propylene to 100% nitric acid being maintained between 0À1: 1 and 0À5 : 1.
