Abstract
1,255,558. Dredging separator. KONINKLIJKE MAATSCHAPPIJ TOT HET UITVOEREN VAN OPENBARE WERKEN "ADRIAAN VOLKER" N.V. 16 April, 1969, No. 19440/69. Heading B1D. [Also in Division El] In a method of dredging a material, e.g. ooze or fine sand, an agent which increases the rate of sedimentation of the material is added to the material before or after dredging. The agent may be applied to the area to be 'dredged, or be passed into either a pipe carrying the dredged material or into a hold of a dredging barge. The agent may comprise a polyelectrolyte - e.g. a cellulosic compound, an organic compound including iron, aluminium and ammonium waterglass, partially saponified acrylonitrile polymer, and calcium salts of copolymers of maleic acid and vinyl acetate. In the apparatus shown the dredged material and the agent from container 8 are pumped onto a moving conveyor belt. Slurry flowing off the end of the belt passes into a cyclone 14 in barge 16 while scraper 13 removes the material which has settled on the belt. A cyclone may be used alone instead of the conveyor belt. The dredged material may be pumped directly to land being reclaimed.
