Abstract

1,255,346. Crystallizing p-xylene. R. GRAESSER Ltd. 9 July, 1970 [18 Sept., 1969], No. 45972/69. Heading C5E. p-Xylene is obtained by treating crude xylene feed in a vacuum crystallizer at or below - 70‹ C. in the presence of a light hydrocarbon, passing the resulting mixture of crystals and mother liquor through a liquid-solid contactor in counterflow to the light hydrocarbon, the light hydrocarbon then being fed to the crystallizer and the p-xylene crystals being withdrawn. Suitable light hydrocarbons are propane, propylene and pentane.
