1,255,056. Thin layer chromatography plates. SCHOEFFEL INSTRUMENT-CORP. 27 Feb., 1969, No. 10463/69. Heading B1X. [Also in Division G2] A thin layer chromatography plate comprises alternate strips of known transmissivity A and opaque separators B and C, the absorbent being laid on the transmissive strips A. The opaque strips prevent spreading of the separated components, and scattering into an adjacent strip A during optical examination. The opaque strips may be raised above one, B, or both, C, sides of the plate, or alternatively (Figs. 3 and 4 not shown) form part of a flat plate (H), the absorbent (D) being removed from the opaque areas (J). In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the plate (F) may be wholly transparent and opaque strips laid on one (E) or both (G) sides of it.
