A device for diffusing an active substance into the atmosphere comprises a block impregnated with the active substance, the block comprising a plurality of slabs, and means for holding the slabs together in block form. The slabs preferably consist of a material with large pores or with agglomerated fibres, such as gelatines, cellulose or felt, but numerous other suitable materials are also specified. A number of suitable active substances are also specified. The active substance may be, for example, an insecticide, an insect repellant or a bacteriicide. Odoriferous or deodorising products may also be present.
