Abstract

1,254,368. Accumulator. VARTA A.G. 8 Dec., 1969 [10 Dec., 1968], No. 59843/69. Heading H1B. An electrical accumulator comprises a lithium anode, a cathodic active mass of cadmium chloride containing electrically conductive materials, preferably 3-30% by weight of soot and/or graphite, and a polar organic electrolyte solution e.g. propylene carbonate, nitromethane ethylene glycol dimethyl ether or diethylene glycol dimethyl ether or mixtures thereof, containing an inert electrically conductive compound preferably LiCI and/or AlCl 3 or LiAlCl 4 . The cathodic active mass may be mixed with cellulose flakes and a binder solution of polyisobutylene or carboxymethyl cellulose and applied to a metallic support of cadmium wire mesh or a copper or nickel mesh coated with cadmium. The support for the lithium anode may be a nickel or copper mesh.
