Abstract
1,254,345. Phthalimido colour couplers. ILFORD Ltd. 10 April, 1970 [18 April, 1969], No. 20003/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] Novel colour couplers having the formulµ in which B represents (i) a pyrazolone grouping of the formula in which A is a phenyl group optionally substituted by Cl, CN or NO 2 and n is 0 or 1, (ii) a group of the formula having a free valency on one of the benzene rings either of which may be substituted by alkyl or alkoxy groups, (iii) a phenolic group of the formula optionally substituted by halogen or alkyl, or (iv) a naphthol group of the formula in which W is a C 1-6 alkylene radical or a group and Y is hydrogen or Cl, Q represents a group of the formulµ R 1 is an alkyl group of at least 12 carbon atoms and X is a direct link or oxygen, are prepared by condensing an amine BNH 2 with the anhydride corresponding to the imide value of Q, or, when B is linked to an amide group in Q, with the corresponding acid chloride. Some of the imide colour couples are obtained as salts of the amic form. Many compounds are specified. 4 - (3 - Dodecylphenylaminocarbonyl)phthalide anhydride is obtained by condensing m-dodecylaniline with trimellitic anhydride acid chloride.
