1,254,183. Decarbonylation of nuclearchlorinated di- and tri-formyl-benzenes. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 11 April, 1969 [11 May, 1968] No. 18727/69. Heading C2C. A process for the selective decarbonylation of nuclear-chlorinated di- and tri-formyl benzenes comprises splitting off one carbonyl group from a tetrachlorodiformyl benzene, and one or two carbonyl groups from a trichlorotriformylbenzene by reaction with a substantially stoichiometric quantity of an alkali metal hydroxide or an alkaline earth metal hydroxide. The invention also comprises the following compounds which have been prepared by this process:-
