Abstract

1,253,592. Facsimile apparatus. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 21 Feb., 1969 [21 Feb., 1968], No. 9450/69. Heading H4F. [Also in Divisions G2 and H1] An image pick-up device for a subject copy 15, Fig. 7, comprises a fibre optics element 14 (see later) through which the incoming light from a scanner, e.g. a line scan cathode-ray tube having a fibre optic face-plate 13, is transmitted in a different path from the light reflected from the subject copy 15 which is disposed adjacent the outer face of element 14, the reflected light being directed by means of optical fibres 16 to a photo-electric converter 17. Element 14 comprises a bundle of optical fibres 1, a light transmitting element 3 of transparent glass and a light shield 2 in the position indicated or adjacent element 3. Incoming light is transmitted from left to right in Fig. 1(A) and reflected (scattered) from the subject copy, a portion of the scattered light entering element 3 and being directed to the photo-electric converter. So that more light is reflected into element 3 a recess may be provided in the fibre plate 1 adjacent thereto (Fig. 2, not shown) alternatively a transparent glass film is attached to the entire outer face of the element (Fig. 3, not shown). To avoid reflections in this film it is preferably made opaque with the exception of a portion adjacent the edge of element 3 (Fig. 4, not shown). Light shield 2 may be juxtaposed directly with element 3 (Fig. 5, not shown) and the outer face of the element 14 may be cut away at 45 degrees, for example (Fig. 6, not shown). The fibre optics element 14 may be embedded directly in the tube face of the CRT (Fig. 8, not shown). The CRT may scan in a circle instead of a line, a circular-to-linear converter of fibre optics elements being provided on the tube face (Fig. 9, not shown). The circular-to-linear converter and fibre optics element 14 may comprise a single fibre optics element (Fig. 10, not shown). The circular scan CRT may be replaced by a light source and a single rotating cranked fibre element (Fig. 11, not shown).
