Abstract
1,253,025. Tubular heat exchangers; domestic hot water supply systems. ZONE HEATING (SMALL BORE) Ltd. 9 Dec., 1968 [7 Sept., 1967], No. 40853/67. Headings F4A and F4S. Adjacent ends of two side by side tubes 1, 2 of a heat exchanger, Fig. 1, extend through a support plate 6 into which the tube ends are sealed, the other ends of the tubes being interconnected e.g. by a bend 3, and each tube having an internal helical winding 9 of coiled wire in contact with its inner surface. External finning 8 also of helically coiled wire may be provided on the tubes. The heat exchanger is intended for use in a domestic heating and hot water supply system and may be located within the water tank 7 with the plate 6 covering an opening in the tank wall. Alternatively the heat exchanger may be located outside the tank (Figs. 9, 10) and vented (e.g. by a tube 15) to atmosphere. Fig. 6 shows an alternative form of the heat exchanger located within the tank 7 and in which the tubes (1A, 1B etc.) are generally L-shaped (see also Figs. 4, 5 and 7). The interconnected ends of the tubes i.e. the ends of the upright limbs 1B, 2B, have vent pipes 11, 12 and are encircled by a shroud 10 closed at its upper end. The entrapped air in the shroud provides an elastic communication between the domestic and heating water circuits.
