Abstract

1,252,925. Casting [composite battery plate assemblies. ELECTRIC POWER STORAGE Ltd. 12 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 6972/68. Headings B3A and B3F. [Also in Division H1] A jig for use in making battery plate assemblies comprises a box for holding one or more stacks of plates and separators and means for aligning the plates and separators and mounted above the box a pair of comb-like bars 30, 31 (Fig. 7) each of which can be moved inwards to co-operate with a back-bar 32, 33 carrying shaped recesses 67-68 to form moulds (Fig. 6) for the combined plate straps and intercell connectors 70. The teeth of the combs pass between the lugs of the plates 13 and fit closely around them to form the bottoms of the moulds. The straps or combined straps and connectors can be formed in the moulds by casting, by fusing together the plate lugs or by placing precast components, with slots in the bottom to receive the lugs, in the moulds and burning them to the lugs.
